Flyers in UAE Can Now Book Emirates Flights Using Bitcoin and Crypto

Passengers in the United Arab Emirates who hold cryptocurrency can now pay for Emirates flights directly with their digital assets, a concrete shift in how the airline processes bookings. The carrier rolled out the option Tuesday through an integration with Crypto.com, a Singapore-based digital currency exchange, making it the first airline known to accept cryptocurrency payments for ticket purchases.

The mechanics of the payment flow differ slightly depending on how customers book. Those using Emirates’ mobile app are routed to the Crypto.com app to authorize payment from their wallet before returning to Emirates to receive their confirmation and electronic ticket. Desktop users follow a different path: they select Crypto.com Pay at checkout, scan a QR code displayed on the booking page, and approve the transaction within their Crypto.com app before the confirmation and e-ticket appear on screen.

For now, the feature is available only to eligible UAE residents making purchases in Emirati dirhams. The partnership between Emirates and Crypto.com began in July 2025, with both parties identifying payment integration as a central objective of their commercial relationship. The airline has not indicated whether it plans to extend cryptocurrency payment options to customers outside the UAE or to bookings denominated in other currencies.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ deputy president and chief commercial officer, framed the move as a response to shifting customer expectations. “Bringing this initiative to life delivers on our commitment to expanding customer choice in how they pay for travel,” Kazim said. “It also reflects the rapidly evolving preferences of a younger, digitally fluent generation who manage their money and plan their journeys primarily from their phones and they expect the airlines they fly with to keep pace.”

That expectation is increasingly hard to ignore. Digital payment methods have become central to how travelers, particularly younger ones, manage their finances and make purchasing decisions. By integrating cryptocurrency as a payment option, Emirates is positioning itself to capture customers who hold digital assets and prefer to transact directly from their mobile devices without converting to traditional currency.

The move also signals the airline’s willingness to experiment with emerging payment technologies as consumer preferences continue to shift. Whether Emirates extends the option beyond the UAE, and to which currencies, remains the open question.
