Corrections Policy

NAJM Press strives for accuracy and accountability in all our reporting. When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly and transparently. This policy explains how readers can report errors, how we review correction requests, where corrections appear, and typical timelines.

How to report an error

Please report errors by: - Emailing [email protected] with the article URL, a clear description of the error, and any supporting evidence or sources. - Submitting the same information through our /contact/ form.

You do not need to give your name, but providing contact details helps us follow up. We welcome reports from readers, sources, and subjects of coverage.

Our review process

  1. Acknowledgement: We aim to acknowledge receipt of correction requests within one business day.
  2. Logging: The request is logged in our corrections tracker and assigned to an editor.
  3. Assessment: An editor reviews the article and the evidence provided. The reporter or author is consulted for clarification and to provide sources.
  4. Verification: We verify facts against available records, primary sources, and, where necessary, third-party documentation.
  5. Legal/safety review: If a correction raises legal or safety concerns, we involve legal counsel or senior editors before publishing a change.
  6. Decision and implementation: The editor decides whether a correction, clarification, retraction, or no change is warranted, and implements it according to the guidelines below.
  7. Notification: We notify the person who requested the correction of the decision and any action taken.

Timelines

  • Acknowledgement: within one business day.
  • Simple factual corrections (e.g., names, dates, figures): typically corrected within three business days.
  • More complex corrections or investigations: may take up to 14 calendar days; we will update the requester on progress.
  • Exceptional cases involving legal review or new evidence may take longer; we will communicate anticipated timelines.

Where corrections appear

  • Updated article: When we correct an article, we update the text and add a clear correction note at the top of the story that explains what changed and why, with a timestamp and editor’s initials.
  • Corrections page: Significant corrections and retractions are summarized on this page so readers can see a record of substantive changes.
  • Distribution channels: For corrections that materially alter a widely shared story, we will note the correction on relevant social posts and newsletters when feasible.

Minor edits for grammar, formatting, or clarity that do not affect meaning are made silently. We remove content only in narrow circumstances (legal requirement, safety, or when material is demonstrably false and harmful).

If you have questions about a decision, you may request escalation to the editor-in-chief.
