OSON Bets on 3M-Client Base in UAE Expansion
Remittance player leverages home-market trust to serve Gulf migrants
OSON, a financial services group with more than 3 million clients across Uzbekistan and Central Asia, has entered the UAE market with OSON X, an application aimed at Central Asians now living and working in the Gulf. The move extends an existing customer base into a new geography rather than building one from scratch. The company frames that base as its core commercial asset.
The economic logic rests on a corridor. OSON X focuses on money flows between the UAE on one side and Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the other, in both directions. The parent company already serves this population at home, giving it years of data on how the community moves money, along with name recognition among millions of potential users in Uzbekistan. In the company’s own framing, that translates into trust, knowledge and focus on a single remittance and payments market.
The product itself is deliberately narrow. Users get one app for sending money, making payments and card use, with support for Uzbek, Russian and English. The tagline, Made for digital Nomads, signals the intended audience: migrants whose accounts and financial habits from home do not carry over when they arrive in the Gulf, often leaving them to rebuild their financial lives with tools designed for someone else.
“We already know this community, because we serve millions of them at home. OSON X is how we stay with them when they move to the UAE, the same trust, built for a new country,” said Makhmudov Farkhod, Founder and CEO of OSON.
The market entry is at an early stage. OSON X is currently running a pilot with a limited group of users, and the company is actively recruiting partners. It is seeking banking and infrastructure partners to help build out the UAE and Central Asia corridor, an invitation that lets early collaborators shape a product for a market OSON says it already understands. For prospective partners, the pitch is exposure to a defined customer segment before the product scales.
Meanwhile, the venture sits within Dubai’s financial free zone structure. OSON X is operated by Oson DIFC Limited and is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) under reference F006764. The company will showcase the product at the Dubai FinTech Summit on 2 and 3 November, at stand 12, where the team expects to meet potential partners.
The broader bet is straightforward: a remittance and payments provider that dominates part of its home market believes it can follow its customers abroad and hold that relationship in their new country of residence. Whether the corridor strategy converts into durable market share in the UAE will depend on how the pilot performs and on the partnerships OSON X secures in the months ahead.
