Segway Plants First Middle East Hub as Off-Road Demand Surges in Saudi Arabia
Segway establishes regional retail presence to serve growing off-road enthusiast community in Saudi Arabia.
Segway Powersports opened its first Gulf Cooperation Council flagship store in Riyadh on July 2, planting a permanent retail base in one of the region’s most serious off-road markets. Located in the Industrial North district, the facility is built around the rider: product displays, test-drive scheduling, after-sales service and promotional activities all run from the same address.
The timing was deliberate. The store’s launch coincided with the regional introduction of the Super Villain SX20T, Segway’s most powerful sport side-by-side to date. The vehicle carries a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 235 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. K-Man 3.0 adjustable suspension, a front locking differential and selectable drive modes round out the spec sheet. The SX20T arrived with a result already on its record, having finished third in its class at the Mint 400 off-road race in Las Vegas earlier this year.
Saudi Arabia is not a casual choice for a regional hub. The country’s desert terrain and entrenched riding culture make it one of the Gulf’s most active markets for off-road recreational vehicles. It is also home to the Dakar Rally, a fact that signals something about the caliber of rider manufacturers are trying to reach there.
Ethan Zhang, sales and marketing president of Segway Powersports, put the investment in direct terms. “Saudi Arabia is one of the most important off-road markets in the Gulf, and the Riyadh flagship gives us a permanent base in the region to connect with customers more closely,” he said. “With the launch of the Super Villain SX20T, we are completing our local lineup and bringing a stronger off-road experience to riders in KSA.”
The store carries Segway’s full Saudi Arabia range. Riders can walk through the Snarler ATV family (AT5, AT6 and AT10 models), the Fugleman utility side-by-side lineup (UT6 and UT10 Crew variants), the Villain SX10 sport side-by-side and the new SX20T. The breadth of inventory positions the Riyadh location as a single destination for customers comparing vehicle categories rather than visiting multiple dealers.
By contrast, the Gulf strategy does not stop at the Saudi border. Segway Powersports already operates across the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait. The company has announced plans to keep expanding its dealer and retail network throughout the region, a signal that Riyadh is a foundation rather than a finish line. Whether that network growth accelerates as the SX20T builds its competitive record in the region remains the open question for riders and dealers watching the brand’s next move.
