Dubai Startup Lands $6.8M to Build AI Platform for Mapping Earth's Changes

Geospatial intelligence startup secures seed funding to expand AI capabilities and global operations

Stellaria, a Dubai-based geospatial intelligence company, has closed a seed funding round worth AED 25 million, backed by a group of angel investors. The deal values the company at AED 420 million and sets the stage for a significant expansion of its technical workforce, AI capabilities and international reach.

At the heart of Stellaria’s offering is what the company calls an AI operating system for geospatial intelligence. The Stella platform pulls together satellite imagery, geospatial data and machine learning models into a single interface, converting raw satellite information into actionable intelligence. Its capabilities span automated target recognition, image super-resolution, maritime and port intelligence, satellite-derived bathymetry and environmental monitoring. Governments, defence agencies, port operators and infrastructure managers are among the customers already using it.

Dr. Ali AlHammadi, Founder and CEO, described the round as a vote of confidence in both the technology and the people building it. “We have grown from a UAE startup into a company building an AI operating system for geospatial intelligence, bringing together satellite data, AI and advanced analytics within a unified platform,” he said. “Our ambition is to build globally relevant space and AI technology from the UAE and contribute to the country’s growing position as a hub for advanced innovation.”

The company was not always called Stellaria. Formerly known as Farmin, it reoriented its focus and rebuilt its identity around geospatial intelligence before participating in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund’s Innovation Accelerator Program. That programme provided mentorship, strategic guidance and ecosystem connections that helped the company deepen its technical capabilities across space, artificial intelligence and geospatial intelligence.

By contrast, the funding environment the company now operates in looks markedly different from its early days. The UAE’s startup and technology sectors have gained sustained momentum, and Stellaria’s trajectory reflects how structured ecosystem support can help high-potential businesses develop and scale. The country’s strategic push to build advanced technology capacity in space and AI from within its own borders is visible in how companies like Stellaria have been cultivated.

With the AED 25 million now secured, Stellaria has identified three priorities: strengthening technology developed inside the UAE, recruiting specialised technical talent and expanding into new geographic and sectoral markets. The company operates from its UAE headquarters and serves both government and commercial customers across defence, maritime, infrastructure and environmental sectors.

Whether Stellaria can translate that domestic foundation into the international competitive position AlHammadi described remains the defining test ahead.
